Nintendo DS Lite vs DSi?

I cant decide between the the i mainly just want it to play the pokmon games,should i get the crimson red ds for 99 or the black dsi 149 ,i don’t really know the differences?

The DSi doesn’t play GBA games, but it has a lot more to offer than the DS. A list;
It can acess the internet
It has Flipnote, a program which you can use to make your own cartoon sketches, and publish them online.
It’s got DSi Sound, where you can record and edit your own sounds.
DSi Shop is where you can download content, such as games, for your console. If you join Club Nintendo, you can even get these games for free if you get a points card with your coins.
Last but not least, it has DSi camera, a very welcome addition.

To be honest, I’d just save up and splurge for the 3DS, which is much better than the DSi. It has a lot more content, and can play 3D games. (Which do NOT give you a headache.)

Unless you’re desperate to play GBA games, I’d get the DSi or 3DS.

Can a Nintendo DS play newer DS games?

I’m looking to buy a DS/DSi/3DS… I’m not really fussed about cameras or web browsing or 3D etc. I just want a basic gaming device. I saw a DS really cheap on the weekend (AU$65) vs the DSi at around AU$200 & 3DS for AU$248. I was thinking I’d get the DS (not sure if lite or not) but not sure if I can play newer games? I figured I can’t play 3DS games but what about newer DS games?

Only the Nintendo 3DS plays all DS, DSi & 3DS Games.

And they have stop making DS & DSi Games.

They only make 3DS Games, so if you want to play all the Nintendo Handheld Games from 2004 to 2018, which is all the different DS Games, than get the 3DS.

And as a bonus the 3DS can play music (even with the system close).

You can LOWER the VOLUME of 3D so it does NOT give you headaches for the first time in your life (if you’re the kind of person to ever get headaches from 3D, otherwise just turn the 3D all the way up).

And you can also turn the 3D OFF Completely.

And 3D is good for working out your eye muscles & brain to keep them in shape as shown in this link:

Also, the screen is perfectly fine, in terms of resolution. Anyway, it’s the pixel density that matters, not the actual number of pixels. The 3DS pixel density is MUCH sharper than an average HD TV of, for example, 32 inches. It’s perfectly fine. Not everything has to be 1080p you know. Since 1080p at 32 inches is worse than just 240p on the 3DS.

And 100% of the people who have said that they get headaches from 3D, have said that after up to 1 to 2 weeks of using the 3DS they NO LONGER get headaches anymore and that they now play with the 3D all the way up 100% all the time, non-stop.

But I have never had any problem with the 3D at all, but each person has a different experience with the 3D ON during the first week.

And you can now pay to download 3D & 2D Videos on the 3DS.

And the 3DS is getting Hulu Plus before the end of this year (2011) as a Free downloadable App and Hulu already has 3D Content.

So I got my nintendo ds Lite about four years ago, and it’s still doing pretty good. I wanted to update, though, so I got the DSi two years ago. It pretty much fell apart within a few months, and I’m back to my DS Lite. I’m considering updating again, and I’m caught between replacing my DS Lite or buying a new 3DS. So what should I get? The way I see it: the DS Lite is more sturdy than newer systems, has the same games (with a few exceptions), and has everything I need. The 3DS has newer features and games, an internet browser, and the Store. The browser on the DSi was okay, but it was kind of slow. Is it the same for the 3DS? Also, are DS games compatible with the 3DS? I think I read somewhere that they are, but I want to be sure. Is the store actually worth using? I used to get a few games here and there on the DSi, but most of them were pointless minigames that I kind of thought were a waste. Finally, how is the battery life with the 3DS? I used to get full days with the DS Lite, but only an hour or two with the DSi on DSi Sound. (Oh, is there still an MP3 player on the 3DS?) If anyone has any professional/user reviews they could point me to, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks Sam! I’ve been hearing a lot of the same stuff on other sites, too. How’s it built, though? I hear the top screen shakes a bit, and the 3D can go ou-of-range. Any comments?
Yes, I just mean loose. Like if you were to for some reason shake your 3DS, you’d hear it rattle a little. At least that’s what I’ve read in a few reviews . The times I’ve used at, it’s seemed pretty sturdy.

I also own a 3DS, though i haven’t had any problems with the screen shaking. I’m assuming you mean in a ‘loose’ way. As you’re holding your 3DS, your screen will only be as steady as your hands, so this may mean a more challenging 3D experience. It’s true that there is a ’sweet spot’ where the 3D works, and if your eyes are too close, or too far away, the 3D can go out of range. When that happens, and if you play that way, you can get a headache. But if your eyes are going buggy, simply switch off the 3D effect and play in 2D. I like to play with the effect on half way, so that it’s not such a strain on my eyes, and yet I still get that 3D experience.

I am thinking of getting my 4 year old a nintendo ds for Christmas this year, but was wondering what the differences are between them all (mainly the lite and XL). What does each do? Whats the differences, which one would be better for a 4 year old and why?

There is no DSi Lite. Just the regular model (you’re thinking of the DS Lite, which is different). The XL just has a larger screen and bigger stylus. It’s really great for older people. If you were thinking of the DS Lite, then it’s just a smaller model than the original (which was quite bulky by comparison). If they’re 4, go with the DSi (or the DS Lite).

The second versions of the old Nintendo handheld were the best, like the Game Boy Colour, Game Boy Advance SP, nintendo ds lite. What I liked was how simple and dedicated they were to just playing games, Nintendo exclusive games, they were cheap, but now I think Nintendo are selling-out with the 3DS.

When my DS lite broke, I did not want DSi because it has very little improvements to what the DS lite already had. I wanted a replacement that would last, because I was worried they would stop making games for DS soon. I wanted to be able to play DS games I already had and thought the backwards compatibility for DS games on the 3DS had the same graphics quality.

But I was wrong. The graphics for DS games are blurry and stretched, and for me not enjoyable to play. The 3DS game graphics are ok, but you have to stay completely still or the image becomes distorted, also the eyes hurt after a short time on 3D mode.

I understand the best games have not come out yet, so I might be wrong, but Super Street Fighter 4 was painful to play because of the uncomfortable positioning of tight clicky D-pad, XYBA and LA buttons. The position of the D-pad on the bottom and Circle-pad on the top was a bad idea. The DS lite chunky button were much more easy to use for a long time. The edges are rough, pointy and badly designed, if it ain’t broke don’t change it. They should kept everything the same as on DS lite except the Home and Wireless buttons. Don’t get me stated on the battery time.

The browser on the 3DS does not have Flash or HTML 5, so no YouTube, No BBC iplayer, online games and so many other websites are unusable, only good for news and text sites. Streetpass is useless.

I did not wait for the Sony NGP/PS Vita because of the exclusive games available to Nintendo, and not the console. I like some games like Mortal Kombat, FIFA and racing games on the PSP better, but that’s it. Two analog sticks are excellent, but just like GBA, I didn’t like the main screen in the middle of the controls. The games available on the NGP are better played on PS3 or Xbox 360.

I hope nintendo gets back to their old console design, because so far this feels like a waste of £200. What do you think of post DS lite and Wii Nintendo?

It seems like the Wii is the hottest thing out there right now. The DS lite is a really good console for when your bored and such.

for pokemon a dslite is better for the game play. In a dslite you can trade pokemon from the Advance cartridges to the ds games. You cant do that with a DSI.

I know the bottom screen is smaller than the top. Can someone give me the comparisons?

Also, which colors will it be in? If they are not selling one in white like the DS Lite and the DSi XL had then I think I’ll just wait until they release one. I have OCD and messy hardware design ruins it for me.

The 3ds bottom touch screen will be the same as the dsi bottom screen. The top screen will be bigger than the dsi but smaller than the dsi xl

There will be black and blue in the launch but new colours might come afterwards
