how do i get to be mario in nintendo ds 64 with the game where mario has wings?

its in that first little part. where mario flys or something. but im not mario. how do i become mario? what did i do wrong? please help. can’t get past it!

you have to unlock him by beating king goomba. In the first level you have to get to the top of the mountain and defeat the giant bo-bomb
