just to get this straight, do you have a wireless modem in your house? if so, it has to be either WEP security, or none at all. you go into any game that uses wireless, then find the menu that says "nintendo wireless settings" or something similar. the DS will search for local networks. if yours is compatible, it should appear. select it, type in the WEP key if applicable, and hit okay. it should run a test, and if it works, your DS is connected to the WiFi.
References :
You'd need to get this, to set your computer up as a wireless access point for the DS to connect to:

http://store.nintendo.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=95704&currency=USD&catalogId=10001&tranId=0&lastAction=setCurr&storeId=10001&languageId=-1&categoryId=62209&ddkey=http:SetCurrencyPreference

But they're no longer in production. So it will be hard finding one in a store.

You may have to go eBay to get it.
