I would go with the DSi or DSlite simply because there are games she can grow with unlike the VTech and V Smile products which are only intended for small children. The Nintendo’s are meant for any age with the games that you deem appropriate for her age group and then as she gets older there will be more mature games for her to play. Plus the DS’s have carrying cases and bigger stylus’ for smaller hands so you can find one with something like Hello Kitty or the Disney Princesses on them.
The DSi’s I hear are really fun and last a while. She’s young though so whatever you give her make sure it’s somethin with a case incase she drops it. Don’t waste money on a DS because they have the new DSi is better and doesn’t cost too much more.

i would defiantly go 4 ds lite my little sister has 1 and shes 6 i wouldn’t get the dsi as it would be 2 complicated and pointless if you cant use it 2 its full pertenial and also if she breaks it will cost alot 2 fix or replace. The Ds has some really good games for 5 year olds.recommend it.
